 Question 4: Audience

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Below I have created a video in which I describe the audience for our opening title sequence. I touch on which audience grade our viewers would fall into and what a typical audeince member would be like for our film. Conclusviely our audience type would fall into C1 or possibly B due the upper middle class themes throughout and the fact that our film has many thriller elements our audience age would be between 35-60. To get these ages our group came together to reseach who would enjoy certain elements of our planned production and would it still appeal to them if a noicably lower budget is used  The reason for for minimal age it being so high is due to the noir style and the lack of action within the opening title sequence. Due to the lack of action, fans of mulimillion pound block busters would not be fond of our product as it is obvious that a minimal budget was used for production.

Despite the mature audience our film would attract I deemded it neccissary to compare the features of our opening title sequence with the British Board of Classificaton film rating system. Below is a link to the post I put on my blog where I feature how a film gets put into each age rating catagory and the rating in which I think our film falls into now that it has been fully created.

After looking through the thye different qualifications needed for a film to fit into each catagory I with the benifit of hindsight I have decided that our film would fit into 15 if the film was created fully. However if the opening title sequence was submitted on its own it would fall into a 12. The reasons for this are numerous. Below are statements from the BBFC depicting what a film must comply with in dfferent areas to be given a 12 age rating.

Language

'the BBFC's Guidelines state that strong language (e.g. 'f***') may be passed at 12 or 12A, depending on the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, its frequency and any special contextual justification. '

Since our opening title sequence does not contain any dialouge this section does not affect our film however if the rest of the film was created I would imagine that strong langauge may be used frequently in an aggresive manor.

Discrimination

'Any discriminatory language or behaviour will not be endorsed by the work as a whole. Aggressive discriminatory language (for example homophobic or racist terms) is unlikely to be passed at 12A or 12 unless it is clearly condemned.'

Our opening title sequence does not contain any discrimination and the rest of the film would not have any in either.

Sexual behavior

'Sex may be briefly and discreetly portrayed at 12A or 12. Verbal sex references should not go beyond what is suitable for young teenagers. Comedy may lessen the impact of some moderate sex references or innuendo but frequent crude sex references are unlikely to be accepted at this category.'

Our opening title sequence does not have any sexual behavioir however it is hinted at with the placement of titling in relation with props. It is most probable that the rest of the film would have some sexual interaction between the anit hero and the femme fetale.

Violence

'At 12A, moderate violence is allowed but it should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if they can be justified by their context (for example brief sight of bloody injury in a medical drama).'

Despite the fact that our opneing title sequence does not contain any violence it is heavily hinted at and the rest of the film would definatly contain violence, potentially enough to put it into a 15 catagory.
