Question 2: Archetypcal representation

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our opening title sequence represents various social groups in a variety of ways. Below is a voice thread which has been narrated over by myself explaining the different ways we acomplished this. I go into detail about the antihero, femme fatale, themes and semiotics.  Furthermore I have also made a table highlighting the key ways we represented social groups and a brief description.

The costume chosen for the antihero was selected to represent the upper working class. The shirt suggests that this man is reasonably wealthy however it is juxtaposed by the tie hung around his neck. This suggests that he perhaps belongs to the working class. Furthermore the colours also help reinforce the contrast.

Through the positioning of the titling and the prop used this shot represents the seductive femme fatale. It could be argued that the long slender ‘legs’ of the implements reinforces the idea that the character is often unstable yet attractive.

Alongside the costume, the use of setting also helps to establish social representation of the antihero. Typically an office environment is associated with someone who has a stable job but the type of lighting we used contrasts with this. Generally low lighting is often used to film poorer people. This generates the idea that the antihero is in an average job.
